Murray Low is a master certified trainer, consultant and articulate speaker on the subject of Crucial Conversations®, an award winning program based on the New York Times bestseller Crucial Conversations. Murray’s expertise extends to many aspects of business and organizational development. His 24 years of business experience began as an auditor in the oil and gas industry in Calgary for Arthur Andersen as a CA. Then, as a management consultant from 1992-95 with Novations based on Provo Utah, Murray helped Nova Corporation focus new business efforts on international pipeline and energy development. Working with leaders, he designed a new strategy and organization to help Mobil Chemical realize $1 billion in increased profitability in the mid 1990’s.
Seeking to understand how to lead a business from an internal perspective, Murray joined the leadership team of Geneva Steel in 1996. He led the leaders of the company in redesigning the business by identifying a clear strategy. Murray helped them to develop aligned business processes, systems, people practices and an enlightened leadership culture to drive the new successful strategy.
Murray continued his leadership development work as an internal organizational effectiveness consultant with the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly from 1998 to 2004. He helped the top 25 leaders surface tradeoffs and make better decision for their $11 billion operating and capital budgets, creating consensus on operational and strategic decisions. He led and
contributed to the roll-out of many global initiatives: employee engagement, culture change, the annual leadership conference, Brand management, Six Sigma, GE’s Workout™ process, strategic planning, process re-design and organizational change management. Murray trained/coached leadership teams from 15 countries to improve leadership development, team unity and organization-wide business improvement and/or culture change efforts. He also taught and coached project leaders how to respectfully and influentially create project success in ambiguous, multi-year large projects.
As a master certified trainer/coach/consultant and speaker in Crucial Conversations® , Murray teaches and coaches leaders to successfully handle sensitive issues. He helps increase influence as leaders learn to respectfully and candidly address the most challenging problems, e.g., mistrust, personality conflicts, project management, hidden agendas, accountability, resource allocation, cross-generational gaps, etc. Properly addressing these challenges helps leaders significantly increase retention/employee satisfaction while simultaneously increasing bottom-line results.
Murray has a BA in Italian and Accounting and a Masters of Organizational Behavior degree from Brigham Young University. He is fluent in Italian, having lived and worked in Italy. He recently relocated back to Calgary after living abroad for 17 years. Murray’s recent clients include the Calgary Health Region, TransCanada, Nexen and Agrium, Encana, Citigroup, MetLife, BMS, Sun Microsystems, IBM, Conoco-Phillips, Eli Lilly, Rolls Royce, Harley Davidson, Shriners’ Children’s Hospital, BP, and Wells Fargo.
